ellen is the executive director of the guild complex, a chicago non-profit organization committed to cross-cultural dialogue through the literary arts. she is the 2001 winner of the scott turow fiction prize and has had received residencies at the ragdale foundation and the centrum writers conference. she has served as a judge for wbez's stories on stage and the third coast festival. she is co-host of prosody, a weekly show featuring the work of poets and writers, on wyep, a national public radio affiliate in pittsburgh. she has earned an masters in creative writing from the university of illinois at chicago and an mfa in fiction writing from the university of pittsburgh. she read from her novel manuscript manic man, and though she knows it's the rec room -- secretly she thinks the word rumpus.
